Who We Are

Fireguard (www.fireguardcvo.com) is a veteran-owned resource hub that provides free tools, calculators, and AI-powered guidance for U.S. military veterans and their families. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and services.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a Fireguard account, we collect:

  • Email address (required)
  • Password (required, stored in encrypted form by our authentication provider)
  • First name, last name, and call sign (optional)
  • Profile picture (optional)

Chat and Content Data

When you use the VA Claims Assistant, we store your conversation messages (questions and AI responses), conversation thread metadata, and any notes you create. This data is associated with your account and is used to provide you with conversation history and continuity between sessions.

Contact Form

When you submit our contact form, we collect your first name, last name, email address, and message. This information is sent to our team via email and is not stored in our database.

Usage Data

We track message counts and usage limits associated with your account to enforce fair-use limits on our free services. We also collect basic page view and performance metrics (Web Vitals) through Vercel Analytics. These metrics do not include personally identifiable information.

IP Addresses

We temporarily collect IP addresses for rate-limiting purposes on our contact form. This data is automatically purged when the rate-limit window expires (typically within 15 minutes).

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain your Fireguard account and services
  • To process your questions through our AI-powered assistant
  • To store your conversation history and notes
  • To enforce usage limits and prevent abuse
  • To respond to contact form submissions
  • To improve site performance and reliability

We do not sell your personal information. We do not send marketing emails. We do not use your data for advertising.

Third-Party Services

Fireguard uses the following third-party services to operate. Each service processes data according to its own privacy policy:

  • Supabase — Authentication, database hosting, and file storage (profile pictures). Manages session cookies and stores account data.
  • OpenAI — AI processing for the VA Claims Assistant. Your chat messages are sent to OpenAI's API to generate responses. Per OpenAI's API data usage policy, API inputs and outputs are retained for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring, then deleted. They are not used to train models.
  • Anthropic — AI processing for certain assistant queries. Your chat messages may be sent to Anthropic's API. Data is handled per Anthropic's API terms of service.
  • Vercel — Website hosting and analytics. Vercel Analytics collects page performance metrics (Web Vitals) without personally identifiable information.
  • Resend — Email delivery for contact form submissions.
  • Printify — Merchandise production and fulfillment. When you purchase merchandise through our Printify-powered store, Printify collects payment and shipping information directly. Fireguard does not receive or store your payment details.

Cookies

Fireguard uses only functional cookies required for authentication and session management. These cookies are set by our authentication provider (Supabase) and are necessary for the site to function. We do not use advertising, tracking, or third-party marketing cookies.

Data Retention and Deletion

When you delete your account through the Settings page, we immediately delete:

  • All conversation threads and messages
  • All claims records
  • All notes
  • Your name, call sign, and profile picture

We retain your email address and usage counters after account deletion to prevent abuse of our free service limits. Your authentication credentials are deleted from our authentication provider.

Children's Privacy

Fireguard is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Security

We implement security measures including HTTPS encryption, HTTP-only session cookies, content security policies, row-level database security, and server-side authentication checks on all API routes. While no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of Fireguard after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
